Why did the United States go to war against Spain in 1898, and why was the outcome significant?

Remember; there are two questions here, make sure you answer both.

The United States went to war with Spain because they claimed that Spain bombed the USS Maine. That was not even true!!! The explosion came from inside the ship. Well ,the stupid war lasted only 4 months for false information. The outcome of he war was significant for the U.S because it was their first war they won with aforeign country.

This war was unnecessary and
it caused people to lose their lives for no apparent reason:(

The United States went to war against Spain in 1898 because the United States didn't agree on some of the things Spain tried to do.
United States was trying to defend Cuba and Spain was trying to interfear. So Spain got mad and and made up lies about the United States.
This outcome of the war was significant because this is when the United States made Spain lose some of their terrotory.

Spain went to war with the United States because the yellow journalism blamed spain for the uss main sinkind. they also went to war to help Cuba get there independents.

The outcome was so significant because Spain thought since they had Cube on there side they were going to defeat the U.S. Also because at the end of the war Spain lost 3 islands.

Spain and the u.s. went to war because the newspaper adds lied about the bombing of the uss maine. The newspaper said that Spain was to blame about the bombing of the USS Maine because they "supposibly" wanted revenge.never belive what other people or media say because deep inside you know it's a lie.But the war only lasted 4 months because of false information. It wasn't worth fighting because it was just a waste of time. -lucero P.

The United States went to war because they thought that Spain had bombed te USS Maine. But it ended up not being true. The Yellow Journalism exagerated. They blamed Spain but the bombing came from inside the ship! Spain ended up giving up and the U.S. gained more land. The American territory got bigger and gained more power.Spain lost 3 islands and they didn't even do anything. It was all the Yellow Journalism fault.

THEY WENT TO WAR,BECAUSE WHEN THE USS MAINE BLEW UP THE YELLOW JOURNALISM HAD BLAMED IT ON SPAIN.THAT'S WHY THE UNITED STATES WENT TO WAR. THE OUTCOME WAS SO SIGNIFICAN THEY LOST 3 ISLAND.SPAIN WENT TO WAR ALSO, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T AGREE ON THINGS.

WELL IT HAS TO DO WITH THE YELLOW JOURNALISM BECAUSE BOTH THE NEW YORK NEWSPAPERS THEY BOTH SUPPORTED THE WAR AGAINST SPAIN...
THYE WENT TO WAR WITH SPAIN BECAUSE THE LOME LETTER WAS STOLEN FROM CUBA AND SENT TO THE NEW YORK NEWSPAPER AND PUBLISHED SO IT STARTED THER. ADN THE PERSON WHO WROTE IT SAID IN IT THAT" WEAK AND CATERING TO THE RABBLE AND, BESIDES, A LOW POLITICIAN" AND IT WAS MEANT FOR CUBA SENT TO THE WRONG PLACE.
THE SIGNIFACENTS WAS THAT PRESIDENT MCKINLEY OFFORED HIS RESIGNITION SO IT HELPED. and also they lost 3 peices of land the phillipenes puerto rico and guam.

U.S.A went into war with Spain because of two things that happen. First an Spanish ambasssdor named Enrique Dupuy de Lome wrote a letter to a friend in Cuda. He wrote about how weak, catering to the rabble, and a low politician the president of the U.S.A was. The Journal got this letter and published it. After that the U.S.A was mad at Spain but didn't go to war until what happen with USS Maine. The USS Maine ship sank because of a underwater mine but The Journal reported that it was Spains that bomded eventhough they didn't have enough support to back it up. The U.S.A tried to be diplomatic with Spain but Spain didn't agree with them so the U.S.A declared war. This was know as the Spanish American war and it only last 4 months. The U.S.A got Puerto Rico, Philippines, and Guam for the war and Cuba became independent. So in my opinion this war was worth it.

The reason that the united states went to war with spain was because
the yellow journalism told that spain blow up the uss maine.
the yellow journalism kept blaming spain for all of the bad misfortune.
The de lome letter said that the president of the u.s was weak. The publishing of that certain letter made it anti-spain in the u.s.
The war was won by the u.s and spain lost three island.

well the first battle was in 1898.But it doesn't tell you when the war was.The Spanish-American War only lasted a few months.People then called it a splendid litlle war because of how long it lasted. The war started because the U.S. thought Spain were the ones taht sinke the ship. The out come of this was that the war was a watse of time. I think this because Spain didn't even do that. Also people lost there lives and it only lasted a few months.

The United States went to war with Spain because the USS Maine got destroyed. The United States thought that it was spain but no one is really sure what caused the explosion. The war had a significant outcome because it only lasted a few months. It also became known as a "splendid little war."

The reason the United States went to war with Spain because they thought that they sunk the USS Maine. When they didnt even know that they did it or not. The reason that they call it the name they call it is because the war only lasted about 4 months tops.
The reason that this war was significant is because this war that lasted 4 MONTHS costed various people to lose their lives because of something this petty, also they lost plenty of land thanks to the ease in giving up in the war! This war didnt even have to happen because those people wouldnt have lost their lives if the war never started!

The USS Maine was bombed and the U.S. thought that it was Spain that bombed it but it wasn't TRUE!! They decided to go to war, the war only lasted 4 months. The U.S. later found out that Spain had not bombed the USS Maine, that the boming came from inside the ship. The U.S. gained more land and power. And Spain lost 3 islands.

The United States went to war with Spain because they thought that Spain bombed the USS Maine. Yellow Journalism helped inflame public support for going to war agianst Spain. After 4 months the war was over, making it the shortest war,The United States got some significant outcome. They won three islands (Guam,Philippines,Puerto Rico).

Spain and the U.S went to war cause the u.s thought that Spain had attacked on the uss maine.
Spain had nothing to do with the explosion. The U.S and Spain fought for 4 months makin it the shortest war. In the end Spain lost Four islands. The U.s gained Three and the fourth became independent.

The Reasons that United states and Spain went to war were because Spain was trying to take land from Cuba and United States thought that Spain blew up the USS Maine. The real reason that the USS Maine exploded was because there ammunition had exploded in side of the USS Maine. The Spanish American war only lasted 4 months making it the shortest war. United States got some significant outcomes from this war. Some of the outcomes were that United States got 3 islands(Guam, Philippines, and Puerto Rico). The United States territory got bigger and Spains territory got smaller.

The reason why the United States went to war with Spain was because, the Uss Maine battleship had exploded wile sailing to Cuba to protect american interest. After the explosion the navy began to investigate, but the newspapers and journals began to blame Spain for the explosion. But they were wrong the Uss Maine had exploded for other reasons. After that the United States wanted Spain to give Cuba its independence,Spain agreed but they didnt want to lose control over Cuba. And because of that president McKinley declared war, with spain. The outcome was that it only lasted a few months and the American navy had destroyed the Spanish squadron.
